Lucca

On Saturday we went on our first train ride out of Firenze. Gwyn thought we were taking a bus to Fiesole, but I suprised her (minor misunderstanding of course) by getting train tickets to Lucca connecting through Pisa. They were really affordable, 8 euros each way on a regional train. The trip was fun, I love riding on trains!
Lucca is a well-preserved medieval town with a large dirt-reinforced brick wall that surrounds it. It's like a large park where people spend the afternoon walking or riding bikes. Very quiet compared to Firenze. We had our best meal so far at Gigi Trattoria. The homemade pasta and gnocchi were the best ever!

There is one surviving medieval tower that you can climb up. It has some trees growing on the roof which I doubt was part of the original plan back in the day. Gwyn found a necklace in an art studio that she liked.
